New Ground - An Evening of Sound and Film

New Ground is a collaborative event of film and sound showcasing the UK premieres of She is Here - short film by Catherine Valve and Branches, debut album by contemporary woodwind trio New Woods Collective. Amongst this, there will also be a premiere of Heelas for bass clarinet, alto flute, piano and electronics by Sam Gooderham which was recorded by NWC in 2021.

During the event there will be a Q&A with the director as well as time to enjoy the lovely food and drink Patchworks has to offer, as well as buy related merchandise and prints.

She is Here is a short film written, directed and edited by Catherine Valve. It is a drama that addresses mental health, loneliness in young people and contemporary city life.

Isla is a young woman struggling to find meaning in life. When a new flatmate unexpectedly shows up, Isla is forced to confront uncomfortable truths and begins to spiral out of control.

Showcasing an all female cast, the film stars Anna Herzog, Kim Spearman, Lauren Stubbs, Káit Feeney, Marcia Burke and Grace Lambert. She is Here features composition by Michael Clulow and music by New Woods Collective.


New Woods Collective are a contemporary woodwind trio based in London. They formed in 2018 during their postgraduate degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and since have performed an eclectic, genre blurring range of repertoire that encompasses jazz, classical, experimental and ambient/electronic music.
