Stainer's Crucifixion is an oratorio for a SATB choir and organ composed by John Stainer in 1887, with text by W J Sparrow Simpson. The piece relates the Biblical narrative of the Passion and Crucifixion of Jesus. It is particularly noted for the Christian hymn, All for Jesus, All for Jesus. We will be performing this work in the orchestrated version.
Fauré's Requiem is the best known of his large works. Composed between 1887 and 1890, it's a modified version of the Mass for the Dead, with seven movements. Treble and baritone soloists combine with a mixed choir and orchestra or organ.
